4 tips to help you have a fun wedding

It’s no secret that here at Rescue Flats, we’re all about making your dream wedding day turn into a celebration that lasts all night. It’s easy to spend all of your wedding planning time deliberating over beautiful details, but ensuring that your wedding is a ton of fun takes planning too! Here are some things to consider when it comes to making sure your wedding is an absolute blast.

1. Momentum

A wedding planner, or even a good emcee, will be able to minimize waiting and keep the party from feeling like it’s dragging by watching the clock and ensuring the festivities keep moving.

Your timeline doesn’t need to be packed with excitement to keep guests from feeling like they’re waiting around. Whether it’s on a printed wedding program or communicated by your emcee, simply by making it clear what’s happening next, your friends and family will be able to relax and enjoy themselves, knowing what’s to come.

2. Sentiment

For couples who are hoping for a killer dance party, it can seem like the best way to get the party started is to cut the speeches and toasts out of the schedule and get on with the music. We’ve all been to a wedding where the speeches last so long that they practically put you to sleep! However, the key to an awesome celebration isn’t nixing the sentimentalities completely… it’s including just the right amount.

The best parties are ones where the guests are emotionally invested. Nothing makes wedding guests want to celebrate like that “we’re-just-so-dang-happy-for-these-guys” feeling! To get that feeling, it’s important to include some of the sentimental parts of your love story, whether that’s through a romantic ceremony, a brief slideshow, or a few short toasts.

3. Comfort

You know what kills a party? Guests who feel uncomfortable. We’ve all been there - leaving a party early because it’s too hot, too cold, or because you’re getting hungry and there’s nothing to eat. While you’re never going to be able to please everyone, keeping your guests as comfortable as possible is the best way to ensure everyone is relaxed, happy, and ready to have a good time.

With that in mind, it’s always a good idea to help your guests by telling them what to expect. Is the wedding outdoors in a location where the temperature will drop in the evening? Let guests know so they are able to bring a sweater. Planning something that doesn’t include a full meal? Make sure to manage guests expectations so no one gets hangry. Help your guests come prepared to have fun by letting them know what to expect.

As a host, there are also ways that you can do your best to ensure the comfort of your guests, even if they arrive well-prepared. Air conditioning may be the farthest thing from your mind when doing a site visit at a potential wedding venue (especially if you’re visiting in winter!), but it will make a huge difference to the comfort level of your guests at a summer wedding. Smaller touches, like fans and bottles of water for an outdoor wedding ceremony, or Rescue Flats for your female guests at your reception, will also go a long way in ensuring that everyone’s ready to have fun.

4. Dancing

It seems like a no-brainer, but one of the most important parts of having an awesome dance party is to play awesome music. Whether you’re hiring a band or a DJ, one of the best things they can do is play a variety of music that’s familiar to both younger and older guests. You may not listen to Top 40 and pop music on the regular, but it’s truly what keeps the dance floor pumping, so give your entertainers freedom to play to the crowd, and keep any obscure music selections for the ceremony or dinner music.

Another great way to make sure your dance party is off the hook is to make sure the dance floor fills up right away. Without a strong start, people may feel shy - it takes a bold person (or a lot of liquid courage) to be the first one on the dance floor! Any good DJ or band will be able to suggest a few ways that they can start the dance floor off with a bang, getting the celebration started for all of your guests.
